About us

The company GSCeP, a. s. was formed in 2007 with the aim of finding a suitable location for the ultimate speed underground gas storage and, subject to good conditions, of implementing the project as well.

The company managed to obtain the necessary permits for mining operations and, thus, it commenced seeking suitable locations without delay.

The year 2009 was a significant milestone for us in the project of building our own natural gas storage intended for the needs of balancing deviations and daily trading. Following extensive analytical works and preparation of administrative conditions we completed all the necessary steps and were able to proceed to the preparation of test holes.

In the course of the year, based on documents available, we selected three geologically suitable locations meeting the conditions for building a cavern ultimate speed underground gas storage in the granite massif. more ›

They include the following:

  • Okrouhlá Radouň in southern Bohemia near Jindřichův Hradec
  • Rožná – Rožínka in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands
  • Rožná - Milasín in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands

We analyzed documents and geological maps available at all the selected sites based on permits granted to explore the delimited area. In the end, we selected two immediately neighboring locations for the commencement of mining operations – Rožná-Rožínka and Rožná-Milasín. The advantage is the availability of the backbone transit gas pipeline of NET4GAS which runs only 16 km from both locations. We plan to build the storage at a depth of 1,000 to 1,200 meters, where access is provided through the only active uranium mine in Europe. Part of the capacity will be released for trading in the free market through an auction. Negotiations with potential investors for the project are in progress. On 30 June 2010 GSCeP a. s., a member of the CE Group, signed a contract with the DIAMO enterprise which allows the commencement of mining works on the construction of an underground natural-gas storage facility in the location of Rožná in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.

In the first phase, the contracting parties set themselves the aim to verify the present results of the analysis of the geological environment and, on the basis of test holes made, to put the geometry of the storage facility being designed in more precise terms. In the second phase we will then proceed to the construction of the actual storage in two immediately neighboring caverns with anticipated capacities of 100 million m3 and 80 million m3 of natural gas. The storage facility is expected to be completed within five to six years. The scope of investment is about CZK 6 billion.
